The Nelson Literary resource is divided into six thematic units. These are as follows:
There is a balance of activities that build skills in all areas of the curriculum. You may view all the objectives on the Department of Education website. The conventions of the English language will be taught in context through practice and an examination of student writing. Modeling will also be a technique used by the teacher as a means evoke proper structure.
Good organization is essential at this grade level and should be practiced from day one. Parents can aid in this by monitoring student work at home. Untidy binders mean poor organizational skills. This will improve with guidance and standards set early. It will pay in dividends in the end with great results.
Assessment: Tests and quizzes will make up no more than 15% of the year and the final is worth 20%.
